Lawn Care
Many lawns are being covered by patios and decking, but some of us strive to have that perfect bowling green lawn, this said the perfect grass for the bowling green would be Chewing's Fescue a velvety surface that can tolerate a shorter cut, but not very hard wearing. Should you have children a much harder wearing grass such as Ryegrass, Chewing's fescue and Timothy combined will be a heavier wearing grass, This however can't be cut too short or photosynthesis won't happen or self seeding which fills out a sparse looking lawn naturally. Airation is also key, using a fork and prodding the lawn every 30cm and raking in fine sand will allow water to get further into the soil and feeding the roots and allowing the grass an opportunity to flourish without the use of harmful chemicals such as grass feed and weed, I personally don't mind dandelions or daisy in my grass as it is a natural look and I am not offended by trivial weeds as they encourage bees, plus how are children ever expected to learn the joy of daisy chains or liking butter from a buttercup being put under the chin and the light reflected under the chin showing wether you do or you don't like butter? Lawns are a great space to relax on a hot summers day the cool grass under foot and the ability to run barefoot and play is almost a lost pastime for so many young people today.
Our company tries to match a lawn to the owner, retired people tend to go for the Chewing Fescue as they have more time and less people walking over their lawns, family tend to go for the mixed seed or turf to ensure it withstands a hammering from the play that it will encounter from children. What we will say is if you are having a newly laid lawn then write the first year off, you will be putting the effort in such as daily watering to ensure the roots knit underneath, and no shrinkage from the tiles of turf. No toileting dogs, as this can burn the grass and unless its well established it may completely kill off that piece of turf. Not being allowed to play on it will pay off as you'll end up with a great lawn for years to come.

Hard landscaping is a great investment. It can make your garden an all weather space and allow your pets to come into tho house dirt free. There are a vast array of materials out there such as marble, porcelain, stone and terracotta to name a few. There are new materials such as pressure treated wood or composite recycled for decking and sleepers.
All priced differently and depending on suppliers and a varying quality. There are recycled and the new, whatever your budget we can always try and make it work for every customer. The majority of your budget will be on the hard landscaping and this is where I advise customers to pay the most of their money as this is where you need the money to last, planting will come and go and for instant results again you'll be spending a lot of money for instant planting, the slabs, sleepers, decking will be the items that will stand the test of time so I always advise to spend money here. Think hard about paths through your garden. These are the best ways to navigate your way around your garden in all weathers so maybe change the materials for paths if you have a big garden as there maybe more places to visit in your garden than just a patio area. Maybe a path to your washing line or your raised vegetable beds.
Whatever your needs we are always ready to change direction. Once the garden is set out, you may think that you can go a little wider with a patio or deck, maybe less lawned area. We understand that ideas may change once the plans are drawn up or mapped out on site, but please do not hesitate to come to us with your ideas or changes as that's the best time to make these alterations. Really thing about your planting options here too, you know your garden best, if your garden is south facing chances are you are going to have sun for the most part of the day, so planting shade loving plants are probably not going to thrive in your garden. If you have high fences or walls this does provide shade so that's probably the best place for for shade loving plants. Remember only you truly know how your garden is every part of the day so maybe make a note or take pictures at different times of the day on a sunny one so you know where your shady and full sun areas are.
